No Strength From Fear
Towards the end of Brideshead Revisited, Charles Ryder talks to the doctor who is attending Lord Marchmain – who is on the verge of dying…
“He’s got a marvelous will to live, hasn’t he?”
The doctor says, “Would you put it like that? I should say a great fear of death.”
“Is there a difference?” Charles asks.
“Oh dear, yes. He doesn’t derive any strength from his fear, you know. It’s wearing him out.”
There is no strength from fear.
Hope pulls us deeper into life.
Thank you. Read this after I made my post about hope. I don’t think we can say enough about hope. We must keep speaking it into the darkness.
